Grant me the courage to change the things I can change, the serenity to accept the things I can't change and the wisdom to know the difference.
— R. Niebuhr
Stress plays a significant role in making people vulnerable to illness. The link between stress and heart disease, hypertension, headaches, backaches and eating and sleeping disorders has been well established. However, no single stress management technique is uniformly successful. Furthermore, strategies that work for one person may not necessarily work for someone else.
Carla offers a variety of methods to define stress, identify current stressors and develop healthy tactics for coping with stress. She combines Cognitive-Behavioral techniques, such as time management and cognitive restructuring, with relaxation techniques, breath work, meditation, guided imagery and exercises from yoga and tai chi. There's something for everyone.
Carla has been offering stress management seminars for paramedics for several years, presenting at Malcolm X College and working with new recruits of the Chicago Fire Department. In addition, she has taught stress management courses in an academic setting.
